Living Your Legacy — The Story Behind The Story

Michael Leung shares his journey from hardship to hope — from losing his mother and battling adversity to becoming the founder of The Flo Group. Listen to his story on the Living Your Legacy podcast with Rudy Mawer, and stay tuned for his upcoming Legacy Makers TV feature in 2026.

Every very story begins somewhere — mine started when I came to Canada as a child, speaking very little english and trying to find my place. Losing my mother to cancer at a young age changed everything. I went from being a straight-A student to completely losing my way — fighting, stealing, getting expelled, and falling into years of addiction, depression, and financial struggle.

But through those dark times, I discovered my real purpose: helping others. Living with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative vision condition, taught me resilience and gratitude. It inspired me to create something meaningful for seniors and individuals with disabilities — a way for them to reconnect with the world through sound. That’s how The Flo Group was born.

Today, my mission is to make hearing accessibility affordable, comfortable, and stigma-free for everyone — especially seniors and low-income communities who deserve to experience sound clarity and connection again.

Why I Created FLO — A New Way to Hear, Connect, and Live Fully

FLO – TruBalance was born from a personal mission to make hearing accessible, healthy, and affordable for everyone. After seeing how traditional hearing aids were often too expensive, uncomfortable, or stigmatizing—especially for seniors and those with disabilities—I wanted to create something different. A product that lets people hear clearly without blocking their ears, keeping them connected to the world around them. FLO – TruBalance combines open-ear bone conduction with sound amplification, giving users both freedom and balance. It’s more than just technology—it’s about restoring confidence, safety, and dignity for those who need it most.

For many years, I’ve watched countless seniors and people with disabilities struggle with hearing loss — not just the physical challenge of hearing, but the emotional pain of disconnection. Traditional hearing aids are often too expensive, uncomfortable, or stigmatizing. That’s what inspired me to create FLO — a new, inclusive, and affordable way to hear and connect with the world.

As someone living with partial blindness (Retinitis Pigmentosa), I know firsthand how vital accessibility and inclusion are. My own challenges with sight gave me a deeper connection to seniors and individuals living with disabilities. It helped me realize that hearing and vision aren’t just senses — they’re lifelines to communication, safety, and independence.

The Flo Group began with one mission: to make high-quality hearing solutions accessible to everyone — not just those who can afford expensive devices. Through innovation, compassion, and countless hours of testing with seniors across Canada, FLO-TruBalance 2.0 was born.

FLO-TruBalance 2.0 is not just another hearing product. It’s an open-ear bone-conduction sound amplifier that sits comfortably on your cheekbones, leaving your ear canal open to prevent wax buildup or pressure. It enhances sound clarity, minimizes background noise, and helps users stay connected without isolation or discomfort.

It’s senior-friendly, durable, versatile, and budget-conscious — offering a fraction of the cost of traditional hearing aids, while delivering a superior and healthier way of hearing.

I’ll never forget the first time a senior told me, “I can finally hear my granddaughter’s voice clearly again.” Moments like that remind me why I started this journey.

FLO isn’t just a product — it’s a movement. A movement toward inclusion, health, and empowerment. My vision is to ensure that everyone, regardless of income or condition, has access to technologies that improve their quality of life and restore the joy of connection.

Because everyone deserves to hear the world — clearly and confidently.
